it needed to happen....

cheese, i know.
GO CANADA!!!!!!

my friends.

SO i'm moving to vancouver tommorow morning and i decided to make a completely sappy post about my friends and how much i'm gonna miss them, cause it's a lot.
if you're like me and pre-ordered your twilight and new moon tickets AND waited in line with the rest of the tweenagers to see the movies, then you might know that the new moon soundtrack is suprisingly good. really good. death cab for cutie, anya marina, black rebel motorcycle club, grizzly bear, st. vincent, thom yorke, ok go, and band of skulls, just to name a few.

band of skulls' song "friends" is one of my favorites.... my friends are the best.
check out the video on their myspace here

.... and i'll miss you!

love

i'm still in the honeymoon stage with my new favourite, the local natives.
i'm sorry if you're sick of hearing about them!
they teamed up with la blogotheque last week and this was the result....amazing

new caribou

2008 Polaris Prize winner Caribou has a new album entitled Swim coming out this April.
A video for the single Odessa was recently released, and while i'm not a fan of the music video, the song has been on repeat for quite a while!

gems

I recently learned of the local group Matthew Hornell & The Diamond Minds. Voted "Best New Band of 2009" by The Scope's readers, this folk/rock group has been creating a buzz around town, and rightly so! We saw these guys play a couple of weeks ago and they're awesome live entertainment. Hornell is a great story teller and the songs are so catchy you can't help but dance and sing along (linds and I don't need much encouragement!)

This weekend is their CD release show and its going to be a good one! Come out, show your support, and help celebrate!

CD Release Friday (Feb 19th) at the Ship w/ The Subtitles, Andrew James O'Brien
$10 at the door, OR $20 gets you in AND a copy of their CD!

So we know you're going, and we're going too! Until then, the band was kind enough to send us a track to share with you!

If you can't come out and see them play this weekend, Hornell & The Diamond Minds will be playing a series of ECMA showcases across Atlantic Canada check out their website for more info!

alter ego.

hardcore to mariachi! chi chi! that's a fun word.
here's a couple of goodies from the bronx/mariachi el bronx.

sunny days.

sunny day real estate are one of the greatest bands ever, and have written some of the greatest songs ever... true story.
earlier this year, the band announced that they're working on a new album. i don't think they could ever top their first album ever, diary, released back in the 1994, which was re-released this past year with a couple of bonus tracks, but i'm so so so excited to hear new music from them!
whoa. ever's.

check them out... one of my favourites.

beauty

La Blogotheque has introduced me to the lovely Emily Jane White.

Local Natives

Also, check out my older post with them performing my favourite, Wide Eyes!

music monday

Load the car and write the note
Grab your bag and grab your coat
Tell the ones that need to know
We are headed north

One foot in and one foot back
But it don't pay, to live like that
So I cut the ties and i jumped the tracks
For never to return

happy early valentines!

We shall surely see each other soon; moreover, today I cannot share with you the thoughts I have had during these last few days touching my own life - If our hearts were always close together, I would have none of these. My heart is full of so many things to say to you - ah - there are moments when I feel that speech amounts to nothing at all -Cheer up - remain my true, my only treasure, my all as I am yours. The gods must send us the rest, what for us must and shall be.

Your faithful Lugwig

from one of beethoven's love letters to his mysterious "immortal beloved."
i'm obsessed with beethoven. seriously. he was such a hopeless romantic.

i'll be celebrating tommorow with my girlfriends (who i love love love) and wine.. lots and lots of wine.

here's one of my favourites.

west coast bound.

why is march 3rd so awesome?
because alexisonfire, cancer bats, against me! and billy talent are playing at the save on foods centre in victoria, BC aaaand me and some friends will be there..?
naw, that can't be it.

my favourite.

it's nudie magazine day!

naw, not really..
canadian musician is a magazine for canada's professional and amateur musicians, which i've never read... until now. the current jan/feb edition featuring three days grace and tegan & sara also features a dear friend of mine, whose super talented :)
he wrote an article for the live sound column of the magazine, "making a house your home."

check out his article (page 60) and the rest of the magazine here... no... here.

black & white

as a fan of photography, i've always favored old black and white photos over color. same goes for music videos apparently...

halifax music.

i'm still madly in love with the reason.
i had a chance to see them in halifax a few times. they were amazing, so so amazing. also amazing was (and is!) a local halifax band shelter with thieves. i found out about them when they opened up for one of the reason shows. check out their myspace here.

the reason's new album (finaaaaally) is set for release sometime next month.

hot chips and dip.

since the release of hot chip's fourth album, one life stand, i haven't been able to stop dancing (i can't dance.....)
although the album is undoubtedly one to love, there are a few tracks that i find kinda boring and overdone, but i won't won't name game....... slush, we have love, and take it in.
you know how the really annoying songs are always the ones to end up on repeat in your head? samantha mumba's baby come on over (WHO?) has been stuck there since junior high school.. but anyways, have a listen, one of these songs will be sure to stick, and they're not annoying. just awesome.

awwww memories...and rollerskates

spent last night doing the typical snowed in ritual of a cozy fire, snacks and a good movie (Whip It). does anybody other than me get excited when you hear an old song that you were in love with in a film???
no?...anybody?
anyway, heard a song from a former favourite of mine The Strokes, and felt the need to dig out their albums and reminisce. turns out the guys are in the studio recording their follow up to 2006's First Impressions of Earth. its been a long time! looking forward to hearing some new tunes from them!

metal heart.

she is amazing.
thanks to ange for making the best mix tapes. if only death metal rooster had more songs....

sounds like home

Mumford & Son have a sound that matches what you would hear in any local bar or pub on the east coast. the difference is, i actually enjoy listening to these Londoners leisurely.

late night/drunk paint....
whaaaaaaaaaaaaat.
balloon boobies
happy birthday ange!

birthday cake

so its my birthday and i'm celebrating with my close friends and fam!! i've got a couple bottles of bubbly and you can bet we'll be starting our own little dance party. here's a playlist of some of my favourite girly tracks to sing/dance to (guilty pleasures included)

grammy's!

so i don't normally enjoy the grammy's, but if you had a chance to watch them last night then you saw what i thought were some pretty amazing performances.
elton john with lady gaga, the tribute to michael jackson, pink, mary j blige with andrea bocelli, JEFF BECK with imelda may (les paul tribute), green day with the broadway cast of american idiot, and dave matthews band.

SO, here's a video of the les paul tribute with jeff beck and imedla may.
